Legacy giving

Legacy giving is a great way for you and your family to make a lasting impact. If you’re considering a planned or legacy gift, please see the following information and let us know how we can help.

Legacy gifts can do the following:

  • Provide sustainable financial resources to help get food to people in need so they can get back on their feet and move on with their lives.

  • Have your charitable values live well beyond your lifetime.

  • Provide tax benefits which may help more of your resources go toward the things that matter most to you such as your family and charitable values.

We encourage you to consult with your attorney or financial advisor to find out if a planned gift or a legacy gift makes sense for you.

Beneficiary Designation

You can name GHP FISH as a beneficiary or secondary beneficiary on such instruments as life insurance policies, annuities, and retirement accounts.  Even naming Gig Harbor Peninsula FISH as a small percentage beneficiary can both help us, and potentially help reduce or offset taxes.  Consult with your insurance, annuity, or retirement plan managers for information on how to obtain and file the necessary forms.

Bequest

You can name GHP FISH as a beneficiary in your estate or will. Your attorney can help you with the correct language.

Qualified Charitable Distribution

Depending on your age and income, there may be a tax benefit to taking some or all the required minimum distribution (RMD) from your IRA or similar retirement account as a charitable contribution (QCD). To qualify, the check or electronic distribution must come directly from the fund manager to GHP FISH or other 501(c)3 nonprofit. Consult your financial advisor or fund manager to see it this a good giving option for you.
