FAQs about donations

Q: What is more helpful, food donations or cash?

A: Cash enables us to direct resources where they are most needed at the moment, but contributions of non-perishable food are always appreciated, as well as donations of gently used clothing and household items.

Q. What food items are most needed?

A. We generally post our most-needed items here. We also take donations of toilet paper, laundry soap and other hygiene items. You can also call the Food Bank for more information.

Q: What are the most-needed clothing items?

A: New socks and underwear are always appreciated, as well as layering clothes such as t-shirts, hoodies, coats, and jeans. We try to maintain a wide range of sizes for everyone in the family. We ask that donations are seasonal, clean, and in good repair.

Q: What are the most-needed household items?

A: Our clients appreciate everything from cookware and small kitchen appliances to light bulbs, decorative items, basic household tools, lamps, throw rugs, sets of dishes, glassware, blankets, towels and linens.

Q: What about school supplies?

A: We can always use tablets, pens, pencils, calculators, notebooks, paper, term paper folders, protractors, rulers, and printer paper.

Q: Can we donate toys?

A: Yes, but they should be select, very clean, like-new and include all necessary parts. Until further notice, we regret that we are unable to accept stuffed animals unless new and sealed in original packaging. During the holiday season, we accept new-in-package toys (and winter coats) for Toy Drive distribution in mid-December.

Q: Anything else?

A: Books, puzzles, games, CDs, DVDs, jewelry, eyeglasses, unopened makeup, travel-sized toiletries. Anything useful to our unhoused clients is always appreciated (backpacks, socks, large body wipes, camping gear). We also accept seasonal items related to various celebrated holidays. The following items can only be accepted if NEW IN BOX: Car seats, cribs, and potty chairs—we cannot give out used ones.
Rule of thumb: Are your donated items nice enough to give to your neighbor? That is literally what we are doing, giving these items to our neighbors.

Q. What items are NOT accepted?

A: Computers, large appliances, furniture, car parts, plumbing materials. Used mattresses, pillows, and car seats. If you would like to donate furniture or a large appliance, please contact us and we will try to match you with a client who needs it. Never leave furniture outside the food bank. Paying to haul it away defeats the purpose of our mission to provide food for hungry families.

Q: Is there help available for carrying in heavy donated items?

A: Depending on available volunteers (with the necessary muscle), we'll be happy to help bring in donated boxes and bags. You can always call ahead to check.

Q: Can I leave donations outside the facility?

A: No. Make your donations during open hours when they can be received by our volunteers.
